How to install AppLocale Windows 8?

If you are using Windows 7 or Vista, see How to Install AppLocale Windows 7

If you simply double click on the download package (apploc.msi), you will receive the following message:
“There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.”

There is nothing wrong with the installer package, it is simply a permissions issue. There are two different ways to overcome this issue

Option #1 Run the AppLocale installer in Windows 8 compatibility mode:

  • Right click the installer package (apploc.msi) and select Properties
  • In the properties window, click the Compatibility tab
  • Tick the “Run this program in compatibility mode for:” box, leave the rest unchanged and hit OK
  • Run the installer by double clicking apploc.msi, AppLocale will install without the error message

Option #2 Run the AppLoc installer as an Administrator:

  • Hit the Windows key, type cmd. Right click Command Prompt and select “Run as administrator”
  • In the command prompt window, browse to the location where you downloaded apploc.msi
  • Type apploc.msi and hit Enter
  • Installer will launch and will complete without the error message

Using either option you will be able to install and use AppLocale on Windows 8. You can download AppLocale from AppLocale download page on Microsoft. If you are new to AppLocale, you may be interested in reading Why, when and how to use AppLocale?
