Fix – Adobe Media Encoder Fails to Launch and doesn’t work

My Adobe Media Encoder doesn’t work any more. All of a sudden, it decided that it doesn’t want to start for some reason… I see the splash screen but it disappears while loading and fails to launch the Media Encoder.

If this describes you, the problem is a corrupt preferences file. To fix this, browse to where the Adobe Media Encoder executable is (e.g C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Media Encoder CS5.5), hold down Ctrl + Shift + Alt (CMD + Shift + Alt for Mac) and double click the executable. This will reset your prferences file and bring Adobe Media Encoder back to life.

Note that doing this from the shortcut on the start menu does not seem to work. You need to browse to the folder where the executable is.

  1. Hi Emre, I had the same problem, and I tried your solution, but nothing changes.

I can see the splash screen but then it freezes on the launching sequence while loading the ExporterQuickTimeHost.bundle

I have the same version on my laptop and it works well.

However, thank you for the tip.
